Coalition Wins Voter Guide Challenge!
It is now clear that churches can freely distribute non-partisan Voter Guides.
In a victory for free speech, a federal judge's ruling in early August 1999 strongly upholds Christian Coalition of America's right to distribute Voter Guides in churches and elsewhere.
"This is a decisive victory for First Amendment freedom," says Pat Robertson. "With this ruling, the Coalition becomes extrememly significant in the year 2000 elections."
The ruling ends a seven-year attack campaign that began when the Democratic National Committe filed complaints aganist Christian Coalition with the Federal Election Commission. Anti-religious freedom groups had used the FEC lawsuit to tell churches they could not distribute Coalition Voter Guides. This ruling sets the record straight.
"This shows that the critics who have tried to scare churches under the guise of revocation of tex exemption are just not telling the truth," says Robertson.
The Coalition provides voter guides to educate voters on the specific issues.
